The Zamfara State Government has rejected recent accusations of negligence against Governor Dauda Lawal, describing the claims as politically motivated and legally baseless.
The allegations were made by a group claiming to be a parallel State Assembly, which accused the governor of failing to adequately address the aftermath of recent attacks in Jangebe and Damri communities within Talata Mafara and Bakura Local Government Areas.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Broadcast Media and Public Relations, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the government clarified that the accusers lack legal standing, as a Zamfara State High Court had already barred them from acting in any legislative capacity.
Justice Muhammad Gusau, in a June 23, 2025, ruling, restrained Bashar Aliyu and eight others from presenting themselves as Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly.
Kaura emphasised that while citizens have the right to voice concerns, the allegations lack legitimacy. He defended the government’s response to the attacks, noting that the Chairman of Talata Mafara LGA was directed to suspend his engagements in Sokoto and return to Jangebe to attend funeral prayers for the victims.
Also, a standing emergency response committee, led by Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni, has been actively assessing damages and distributing relief materials to affected communities.
On security, Kaura reiterated the Zamfara administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward banditry, ruling out negotiations with terrorists. He highlighted the successes of ongoing military operations, supported by civilian joint task forces and local hunters, which have led to the neutralisation of several notorious bandit leaders.
Kaura urged the public to disregard the accusations, labelling the group as “disgruntled political elements” and warning that their actions could amount to contempt of court. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its “Rescue Mission Agenda,” stressing that security improvements remain a top priority.
