Former Nigerian goalkeeper Peter Rufai has reassured Nigerians that the Super Eagles can overcome Sierra Leone on Sunday and qualify for the African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria previously defeated the Leon Stars in 2022, coming back from a goal down to win 2-1.
Speaking ahead of the game on Sunday, the 1994 AFCON winner told Completesports that playing in a neutral ground will afford the Super Eagles the chance to pick the maximum points.
The Super Eagles won’t really be under any sort of pressure because they are top of the group. In other words, Sierra Leone, who will be playing on a neutral pitch will be desperate to pick up points in a bid to brighten their chances of qualifying for the tournament. The calibre of players in Jose Peseiro’s disposal are capable of overcoming Sierra Leone.”
The Super Eagles lead their AFCON qualifying group with nine points and a win against the Leone Stars will guarantee a place in Ivory Coast 2023, just as Sierra Leone also needs a win to boost their chances of qualifying.
