Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2baba, has shared personal reflections on his separation from Annie Idibia and his views on relationships during an appearance on Nedu’s podcast.

Speaking candidly, 2baba revealed that he and Annie gave their marriage their best effort, but it simply wasn’t working. He emphasized that the reasons behind their split are private, though he praised Annie as an amazing woman.

I think both of us gave it our best,” he said. “Why we aren’t together today is not something I’m going to start talking about here. Me and her, we get our understanding. She’s amazing. It just wasn’t working no more.”

The legendary artist addressed the pressures of staying in unhappy unions, cautioning against societal dictates. He described marriage as “living in bondage” for many who remain in sad and unfulfilled relationships. According to 2baba, peace of mind should take precedence when things are no longer working.

This thing they call living in bondage is real. Many people have lived their lives very sadly without achieving their potential. If it’s glaring that things aren’t working, nobody should force themselves.”

2baba also expressed admiration for the mothers of his seven children, including Annie, whom he still fondly calls “My Annie.” He acknowledged her sacrifices while clarifying that his fiancée, Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, played no role in the breakdown of his marriage. Declaring his love for Natasha, he described her as his source of peace and true love.

The music star recently introduced Natasha to his family and Idoma traditional leaders in Benue State, where they received blessings for their union.

2baba’s comments about male sexuality sparked heated debates online. He argued that men are biologically inclined not to remain sexually exclusive, stating, “A man can love one woman, but it’s impossible for a man to sexually be with one woman only.”

His remarks drew sharp criticism from fans and celebrities, with many referencing his history of infidelity during his marriage to Annie. Public reactions ranged from disappointment to outright disapproval, with some defending his viewpoint as reflective of African traditions.
