Manchester United has opted to cut short Sergio Reguilon’s season-long loan, activating a break clause in the deal and sending the defender back to Tottenham. Initially brought in to provide cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Reguilon played 12 times for the Red Devils across all competitions, accumulating 655 minutes on the pitch.
However, with Shaw’s short-term injury and Malacia’s imminent return, coupled with Manchester United’s elimination from the Champions League and Carabao Cup, the opportunity for Reguilon to play was diminishing.
The decision to terminate the loan agreement early was not unexpected, and now, talkSPORT understands that Tottenham will either look to loan out Reguilon again or consider a permanent sale in the January transfer window. Since the defender has only featured for Manchester United this season, he remains eligible to play for another club if a move materializes this January.
As Manchester United prepares to face Wigan in the FA Cup on Monday, the departure of Reguilon marks a strategic shift in their defensive lineup, with alternatives like Diogo Dalot available at left-back if needed.
