Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, a prominent Nigerian clergyman, has expressed concern over the lack of preparation for marriage among young Nigerians. On April 24th, 2023, Bamiloye posted on Instagram, bemoaning that many young Nigerians focus more on planning their weddings than preparing for marriage. He observed that many are not adequately equipped for the challenges of married life and are too hasty to learn marital principles.
Mike Bamiloye also expressed concern over the lack of basic skills among many young Nigerian women, who he believes are not wife material even at 28. He observed that many of these women could not cook, were used to eating fast foods, and had a shallow knowledge of the Word of God.
Therefore, he questioned how they would withstand the spiritual challenges against every home and take a stand against the devil’s wiles that now blow against every Christian home.
The clergyman also criticized the materialistic mindset of many young Nigerian women, who focus more on their wedding day than the marriage itself. He noted that they spend several months preparing for the wedding day but little time studying what married life entails. Evangelist Bamiloye stressed that love is blind at courtship, but the marriage opens blind eyes. Hence, he encouraged young women to study the principles of marital life and prepare for the spiritual challenges that come with it.
Furthermore,
The clergyman also expressed concern about the increasing divorce and separation rates among young Nigerian couples. Bamiloye noted that young people are taught to leave marriages when things are not going well. However, he emphasized that marriages require endurance, respect, perseverance, and patience.
Finally, the evangelist called on young Nigerians, especially women, to prepare for marriage and learn marital principles rather than focus on the wedding day alone. Also, they ought to endure the tough times and build marriages that glorify God.
