Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye recently opened up about the challenges she faced during the early stages of her career, where movie producers sought to exploit her curvaceous figure by typecasting her into sexual roles.
In an interview with The Sun Newspaper, she revealed her strong stance against accepting such roles and expressed her gratitude to award-winning filmmaker Uduak Isong for giving her a breakthrough opportunity.
According to Ademoye, many filmmakers wanted to pigeonhole her into roles that objectified her physique. Such as the seductive secretary or the mistress who stole someone’s partner. However, it was Uduak Isong who recognized her talent and offered her a role that showcased her versatility.
Since then, Ademoye’s career has soared, with a flood of diverse roles and comedy opportunities coming her way. The actress’s experience exposes the issue of typecasting and the pressures faced by actors to conform to certain stereotypes.
