During the Eid-El-Kabir festivities, the Kwara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken measures to ensure road safety by deploying a significant number of personnel and resources. This includes 950 officers and marshals, 40 patrol cars, two power cycles, four ambulances, and four privately owned tow trucks. Their primary objective is to monitor all highways within the state throughout the celebration period.
The Public Education Officer, Basambo Olayinka Busari, of the Kwara Sector Command, released a statement on behalf of Corps Commander Fredrick Ogidan, the Kwara State Sector Commander. The statement claims they have deployed personnel for traffic control during the Eid-El-Kabir special patrol. This will ensure smooth traffic flow and road safety in strategic locations within major cities in the state. The special patrol is scheduled to take place from June 26 to July 1, 2023.
The Sector Commander issued a warning to the motorist. In the warning, he emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations during the Eid-El-Kabir special patrol. Motorists were specifically cautioned against engaging in activities such as;
- excessive speeding
- overloading vehicles
- obstructing traffic
- using phones while driving
- violating passenger manifest requirements
- operating mechanically deficient or rickety vehicles
- disregarding lane discipline or route regulations
- driving with worn-out tires, and driving without functional windscreen wipers.
These measures aim to promote road safety and minimize potential risks during the festive period.
The FRSC Kwara State Command will organise a public enlightenment campaign/mega rally in all interstate motor parks, an early morning cry, and market advocacy to sensitise the driving people in Kwara State during this festive time.
The Command will also conduct a special patrol operation/traffic control to relieve traffic congestion in Ilorin and other important roadways connecting the state.
The tow truck, ambulances, and rescue marshals will be stationed along important state routes for road safety.
The effort is aimed at attaining the corps’s 2023 Corporate Strategic Goal No. 1 of a 5% decrease in road collision fatalities, deaths, and injuries.
While wishing the wonderful people of Harmony a great Eid-El-Kabir, he cautioned motorists to travel cautiously since “only the living celebrate.”
