With the exit of Roberto Firmino, Liverpool’s number 9 jersey has become vacant. It appears last summer’s £ 85 million signing Darwin Nunez could inherit the shirt.
Firmino wore the number on Merseyside since 2017 and scored over a hundred times for the club.
Football Authentica posted a snap of ready-to-print No.9s and ‘Darwin’ shirts, leading fans to believe this would suggest the 23-year-old will take that squad number for the 2023/24 campaign.
Darwin Nunez was given the No.27 shirt in an underwhelming first season with Liverpool, netting 15 goals in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Nunez participated in a charity match in his hometown of Artigas in Uruguay. The match was put together to help collect food and supplies for local families in need.
Liverpool’s squad will reconvene at the AXA Training Centre on Saturday, July 8, with those involved in international games in June arriving back three days later, on Tuesday, July 11.
