STARTUP ACCOUNTANT – Job Description
Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and financial statements for Workpay’s Nigeria subsidiary.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and financial analysis reports for Workpay’s Nigeria subsidiary.
- Manage statutory deductions and remittances to authorities (PAYE, NHF, NSITF, ITF, CIT, Pension) for Workpay’s employees and clients.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes for Nigeria, including processing invoices, issuing payments, and monitoring outstanding balances.
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of financial reports and schedules.
- Could you assist in making periodic payments and reconciliations of our bank accounts?
- Assist support in checking the payment status via our systems and take any necessary action depending on the received status.
- Act as a liaison between Workpay and our payment partners in managing all accounts accordingly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- ICAN or CFA certification.
- 2+ years of experience in full-time accounting or finance roles in Nigeria.
- Experience directly servicing external clients, as well as internal teams.
- Comfort with the fast-paced, growth-oriented, loosely structured startup approach.
- Proven track record managing timely and accurate statutory deductions and remittances for multiple entities at a time.
- Keen knowledge of Nigerian tax and accounting regulations and systems.
- Expert proficiency in Quickbooks and Google Sheets.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams.
