No less than 7000 Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers have been promoted to higher levels across the board. The promotion was announced in a letter signed by Alhaji Jafaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Immigration, Civil Defence, Correctional, and Fire Service Board.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Service’s Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Kenneth Kure, who was also promoted to the rank of Assistant Comptroller, the promoted personnel included both senior officers who sat for regular exams and junior staff who were upgraded as a result of obtaining additional qualifications.
In a similar development, Wuraola Adepoju, the Acting Comptroller General of NIS, has redeployed 12 comptrollers to various states, including the FCT, Kano, Jigawa, Ondo, Ogun, and Mfum Border Control, among others.
She authorised the appointment of Tony Akuneme, the former Service spokesman, as Comptroller of the FCT Command, while Comptroller Joseph Dada becomes the new Principal Staff Officer to the Comptroller General.
The CGIS charged officers and men of the Service at their monthly parade to prioritise the image of the work over personal interests.
She promised to prioritise employee wellbeing and that advancement would no longer be based solely on seniority.
