Super Falcons skipper Onome Ebi has been recognized by FIFA as she gets set to make her 6th world cup appearance in Australia and New Zealand.Nigeria have qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup on nine occasions, and Onome Ebi has had the honour of playing in five of them.

This eventful 20-year journey began in Philadelphia. Barely out of her teens, Ebi was one of the lucky few selected by Nigeria coach Samuel Okpodu to travel to Germany 2003.

The Super Falcons’ look to surpass the achievements of the Nigeria team that advanced to the quarter-finals of the 1999 Women’s World Cup in the United States, when they became the first African country to reach that stage of the competition.

Randy Waldrum’s side arrived at their camp base in Brisbane on Sunday morning. Onome believes the team is in good spirit and ready to play:

“The sessions have been intense, motivating, and okay. The girls are in good shape, in good spirits, and ready to go. The training speaks for itself as regards the mood in camp because this is what I bargained for.

“The players are meeting up with physical and tactical aspects of training; the mood is okay.”

The Super Falcons will take on Canada on Friday, July 21 in their first game at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
