After a few critical days, Edwin van der Sar, legendary goalkeeper and CEO of Ajax FC, has finally announced that he has been moved out of the intensive care unit.
The Dutchman had been hospitalised after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage last week, but he’s now on a clear path to recovery.
Van der Sar, a beloved icon in Dutch football, expressed gratitude towards the hospital staff and the outpouring of support from fans around the world. He also shared a statement on his personal Twitter account, assuring everyone that he’s feeling better and taking things one step at a time.
His return home is expected in the coming days, after which he’ll take a few weeks of rest to fully recover. Ajax FC released a statement following the update, stating that they’re looking forward to having their CEO back in good health soon.
