In order to lessen the unpleasant impacts of the removal of the petrol subsidy, Adamawa state governor Ahmadu Fintiri has granted N10,000 per month as a palliative for public employees and pensioners for a period of six months.

Dr Edgar Amos, the chief of staff for the governor, revealed this during a Wednesday Q&A with journalists in Yola.

The governor also authorised the complete implementation of the federal minimum wage for workers in local government, making life easier for the local government workers. This will take effect in August according to Amos, the Chairman of the Special Committee on mitigating effects of fuel subsidy removal.

He claims that the governor also gave his approval for the purchase of 20 trucks of rice and 70 trucks of corn for distribution to the populace at a reduced price.

He said that 50 trucks of fertiliser will be purchased by the government at a discounted price for use by state employees.

He further stated that arrangements had been made to buy shuttle buses to carry employees to and from the state headquarters and for inter-local government transportation.

The measures, according to Amos, were included in the suggestions made by the special committee set up to come up with palliatives to lessen the impact of the subsidy withdrawal policy.
