In a surprising twist, Nigerian football star and AFCON champion, Kenneth Omeruo, has turned down a tempting offer from a Saudi Pro League club to make a triumphant return to the Turkish Super Lig.
The Kasımpaşa club has officially announced the signing of the former Chelsea recruit, marking Omeruo’s comeback to familiar territory.
The exact details of the contract, including its duration and financial terms, remain undisclosed for now. However, what makes this deal particularly intriguing is Omeruo’s decision to decline a lucrative opportunity in favor of rejoining the Turkish Super Lig.
The signing ceremony took place at Kasımpaşa’s Turgay Ciner Sports Facilities, where Omeruo put pen to paper, pledging his commitment to the club. Before finalizing the move, the player underwent a thorough medical examination at Liv Hospital Vadi Istanbul, ensuring he is in top form for the upcoming season.
Interestingly, this won’t be Omeruo’s first stint with Kasımpaşa. During his time at Chelsea, he enjoyed two successful loan spells with the Istanbul club, accumulating an impressive 54 appearances. Furthermore, the talented defender has a total of 79 appearances in the Turkish topflight, split between two different clubs. Notably, 26 of those appearances were for Alanyaspor during the 2016-2017 season.
Prior to this move, Omeruo was associated with the Spanish La Liga 2 team, CD Leganes. Despite having a year left on his contract, the club has officially parted ways with him.
On the international front, Omeruo stands as one of Nigeria’s most seasoned players in the present Super Eagles lineup, boasting an impressive 60 caps. Notably, he is one of only two surviving players from Nigeria’s triumphant Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa back in 2013, the other being the current team captain, Ahmed Musa.
