The list of standing committees was released by Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
James Faleke kept his position as chairman of the Committee on Finance, while the Committee on Appropriations was entrusted to Abubakar Bichi, with Idu Igariwey serving as his deputy.
Akin Alabi has taken over as the new Chairman of the Committee on Works, while Muktar Betara has been transferred to the Committee on the Federal Capital Territory.
The Committee on Public Accounts is led by Bamidele Salami. Former Speaker Idris Wase as the Chairman of Federal Character.
Prior to making the announcement, Mr Abbas urged his colleagues to approve the list, remarking that there is nothing like juicy committees.
He stated:
“My dear Colleagues, you would recall that the leadership of the House has consistently assured members of its resolve to be fair to all, irrespective of political leanings and affiliations.
“There is no grade ‘A’ nor the so-called ‘juicy committees’ as some erroneously often think. Every committee of the House enjoys equal status, powers and privileges as mere working groups to discharge the mandate given to us by our constituents.”
