At least 100 homes were destroyed and 500 people were left homeless due to Friday’s downpour in Gombe State, the tragedy, which took place in the Dogon Ruwa hamlet of the Kaltungo Local Government Area, also swept away 15 animals.

Sheep and goats were among the 15 animals, according to the village leader Aliyu Isah, who also noted how disastrous the water had been for the locals.

Ishah, who also serves as Sa’in Dogon Ruwa of the community, informed newsmen that the LGA officials were aware but had not yet taken action. He requested assistance from the Gombe State Administration.

Isah stated:

“We the Dogon Ruwa community appeal to the state government to assist us. We need shelter and food. There will go a long way in addressing the immediate needs of those of us who are facing hardship. We have already complained to our LGA chairman.

“We lost about 15 sheep and goats. 100 houses were destroyed and 500 are currently homeless. The lack of adequate shelter has become a pressing concern for many of us, leaving families vulnerable and exposed to risks. Also, the scarcity of food resources further worsens our situation. The value of what was lost is in millions.”

Mohammed Garba, the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation at SEMA, made a commitment to get in touch with our correspondent. Until the time of publication, Garba has not responded.
