Manchester City is on the verge of securing a groundbreaking deal for RB Leipzig’s star center-back, Josko Gvardiol.

The Premier League club is in advanced talks for the Croatian international, with the package valued at £77 million plus add-ons. If the deal goes through, it would make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in history, outdoing the £80 million paid by Manchester United for Harry Maguire.

The 21-year-old defender showcased his talents during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, attracting interest from some of the world’s biggest football clubs. Previously, Chelsea had made a bid of approximately £70 million for Gvardiol in January, but Leipzig turned it down.

With Gvardiol’s potential arrival at Man City, he would be joining a strong defensive lineup alongside players like John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanje, and Aymeric Laporte. If the transfer is finalized, it could pave the way for Laporte’s departure from the club.

The deal is eagerly anticipated by football fans as it signifies a significant milestone in the ever-evolving transfer market. Man City’s pursuit of Gvardiol showcases their ambition to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season and compete at the highest level in both domestic and international competitions.
