American singer Joe Jonas has taken a significant step by officially filing for divorce from his wife, Sophie Turner, bringing an end to their four-year marriage. The 34-year-old musician submitted the necessary paperwork in a Miami-Dade County courtroom on Tuesday, September 4.
According to court documents obtained by DailyMail, Jonas stated that his marriage to the 27-year-old Game of Thrones actress had reached an ‘irretrievably broken’ point. The couple, who share two children, three-year-old Willa and another daughter whose name remains undisclosed, plan to share custody of their offspring.
In the divorce documents, Willa is identified by her initials, W.J., while their other daughter is listed as D.J. Jonas’ attorney stated, ‘It is in the best interests of the minor children that the parties have shared parental responsibility.’
The paperwork further indicates that Joe Jonas ‘respectfully requests’ the establishment of a parenting plan and a timesharing schedule. Miami, Florida, is noted as the primary residence for Willa and D.J., where the couple had been living.
The documents also reveal that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner entered into a prenuptial agreement on April 29, 2019, just before their Las Vegas wedding. While the prenup itself wasn’t included in the filing to ‘protect the privacy rights of both parties,’ it suggests that Jonas does not intend to seek child support from Turner. It states, ‘Both parties have the ability to provide for the support of the minor children, and they should both be required to contribute to the support of the minor children.’
Joe Jonas has retained the services of West Palm Beach-based attorney Thomas J. Sasser for the divorce proceedings, while Sophie Turner’s business manager, Carrie Malcolm, is listed as her main point of contact in the paperwork.
Photographs taken on August 11 showed Joe Jonas without his wedding ring, but during a performance alongside his brothers in Austin, Texas, on September 3, he was seen wearing the ring again.
The couple’s romantic journey began in 2016 when they first started dating after being introduced by mutual friends. They became engaged one year later and eventually had two wedding ceremonies, one in Las Vegas and another grand celebration in Paris, marking the union of their love.
