Oluwatobiloba Amusan, the world hurdles record holder, expressed profound gratitude to God after capping off her season with a spectacular and record-breaking triumph by securing her third consecutive Wanda Diamond League title.
In an electrifying race held in Oregon on Sunday night, Amusan emerged victorious in the fiercely contested 100m hurdles event, outpacing formidable competitors including Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Kendra Harrison, Danielle Williams, and more. She clocked a season’s best time of 12.33 seconds, leaving Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico in second place at 12.38 seconds, and American Keni Harrison in third at 12.44 seconds.
Amusan’s remarkable achievement marks her as the second woman in Diamond League history, following Dawn Nelson-Harper, to secure a hat-trick of 100m hurdles titles. This historic win took place on the same track where she had clinched last year’s world championship and set the current world record with a blazing time of 12.12 seconds during the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
After her outstanding performance, Amusan humbly stated, “I came out here… and said it’s my race to lose, and I will give my all. I said it’s 200 or nothing because, 100%, I am not winning today. So I came out here, and I told God to give me the strength.”
The 26-year-old athlete now joins the exclusive ranks of American athlete Dawn Nelson-Harper, who achieved the Diamond League 100m women’s hurdles title in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Amusan dedicated her historic victory to God, her team, her devoted fans, and her family for their unwavering support throughout her journey.
