Shocking Revelation: Mohbad Penned 97% of Marlian Music, Claims Journalist Kemi Okunloyo

Amidst the ongoing wave of accusations, allegations, and speculations surrounding the tragic passing of the talented artist Mohbad, media personality and investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, has come forward with surprising revelations.

Known for her controversial takes and bold statements, Kemi Okunloyo dropped a bombshell by asserting that Mohbad played a pivotal role in the success of Marlian Music, suggesting that he was the creative mastermind behind nearly all of the label’s music, estimating his contribution at a staggering 97%.

Here are the details of her statement:

MOHBAD’S MUSIC ESTATE

After conducting extensive research, including monitoring streaming numbers and checking the Imolenization Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) records, I have discovered that as of today, Mohbad’s estimated net worth is N700 million, roughly equivalent to $690,000 USD.

Naira Marley owes him approximately N300 million in song royalties. In one of my posts, I previously mentioned the top three songwriters in Nigeria as Tiwa Savage, Teni, and the third individual, surprisingly, is Mohbad. Mohbad is credited with writing nearly 97% of all songs released under the Marlian Music label.

Songwriters are entitled to royalties, and I cited SOCAN Foundation as an example when I served as a Canadian Grammy Judge for The JUNO Awards.

Mohbad had voiced his grievances that Naira Marley was withholding his royalties, streaming revenues, and download earnings, indicating a strained business relationship between them. Nigeria needs artist developers to enhance the industry without the influence of drugs and cultism, making it globally competitive.

As you can observe, Davido took steps to represent the brotherhood, despite my warning against returning to Nigeria. Only the discerning can comprehend that aspect. Nobody dares to speak against the brotherhood. Most label bosses and industry elites have maintained silence, given their affiliations with the same cult. They are reluctant to oppose Naira Marley.

As Mohbad’s estate potentially reaches one billion Naira in the days ahead, I recommend a court-appointed probate lawyer to assume control of his music assets, provided Naira Marley releases the funds. It could lead to a bitter legal battle, and he should have pursued this course long ago, but individuals like Zlatan and Bella Shmurda advised him to “hang in there.” These so-called friends could have offered assistance.

It’s akin to advising a woman in an abusive relationship to stay put. The toxicity eventually takes its toll, resulting in drug abuse, hypertension, and alcoholism, among other issues. All of Mohbad’s major hits are part of Marlian music, in addition to the songs he wrote for Zinoleesky and Naira Marley, contributing to the N300 million. The remainder comes from streams and downloads on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, Boomplay, Deezer, Shazam, Napster, iTunes, Google Play Music, Amazon Music, and more.

Meanwhile, people are busy trying to ascertain WHO killed him, rather than WHAT caused his demise and who will inherit his estate. His son should undergo a paternity DNA test, and if that confirms his parentage, all his music assets should be placed in a trust fund until he turns 18.

A DNA sample can be obtained from his body, but I hold reservations about trusting his estranged mother, absentee father, or wife. Only his Imolenization team should have access to the revenues from his final project ‘BLESSED,’ which has generated substantial income. Every penny should be transferred to a trust fund.

It’s essential to understand who you are signing record deals with and the terms of the contract. Mohbad wanted to leave, and there were rumors that Naira Marley allegedly attempted to involve him in drug-related activities, which he refused. However, he may not have fully comprehended the consequences of breaking a contract. We witnessed a similar situation with Davido around 2010 with his first label. His wealthy father, Deji Adeleke, had to buy out his contract to free him.

I’ve been a music journalist for 20 years, starting on September 21st, 2003, during my nearly 30-year journalism career. I have also worked as a music publicist, organizing events and handling PR for numerous artists, including Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Sean Kingston, Di’Ja, Wizkid, and more in Canada and the WI.

Unfortunately, Mohbad did not leave behind a will. Naira Marley has now joined the war on drugs, growing weary, and Mohbad is no more. May his soul rest in peace.”

Kemi Olunloyo’s startling revelation has ignited discussions and raised questions about the dynamics within the music industry, particularly concerning artist royalties and contracts.
