President Bola Tinubu has approved the nomination of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for a four-year term in the first instance on Thursday, pending Senate confirmation.

This comes almost four months after the president suspended Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the anti-graft agency.

According to a statement penned by Ajuri Ngelale, the president’s special adviser on media and publicity on Thursday, “Mr. Olukayode’s appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.”

The statement is headlined, ‘President Tinubu appoints new EFCC. Chairman and Secretary of the Commission.’

Olukoyede is a lawyer with more than 22 years of experience working as a regulatory compliance consultant, fraud management expert, and corporate intelligence specialist.

Having previously held the positions of Secretary to the Commission (2018–2023) and Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016–2018), he has a wealth of expertise in the management of the EFCC. He thereby satisfies the legal prerequisite for nomination to the position of EFCC Chairman.

In addition, President Tinubu gave his approval to Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda’s nomination as the EFCC Secretary for an initial term of five years that is extendable, subject to Senate approval.
