In a stunning revelation, Matteo Guendouzi has taken a swipe at his former club, Arsenal, while expressing his newfound appreciation for Lazio.
The 24-year-old midfielder’s departure from Arsenal was marked by a bitter fallout with manager Mikel Arteta, which ultimately led to his move to the Serie A side this summer.
Guendouzi, who had a successful loan spell at Hertha BSC in Berlin, cited the difference in reception as a key factor. He compared the warmth of the Lazio fans to his experiences at Marseille and, in a stinging comment, stated that it surpassed his reception at Arsenal. Guendouzi vowed to reciprocate the Italian club’s support, saying, “I will pay them (Lazio fans) back with interest.”
The Frenchman’s turbulent journey began in June 2020, when a dispute with Arteta saw him fall out of favor at Arsenal. A successful stint in Germany was not enough to secure a return to the Gunners under Arteta’s management.
Guendouzi is now thriving at Lazio, with 12 appearances under his belt. As he prepares for a Serie A showdown against Sassuolo, his former club, Arsenal, will clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Guendouzi’s resilience and determination to succeed in Italy are a testament to his character.
