In a bid to bolster their squad, Turkish club Fenerbahçe has set their sights on Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho as their primary transfer target for the upcoming January window, according to Soccernet.ng.

Iheanacho, who has been a standout performer for Leicester City, is the joint-leading goal scorer for the Foxes in the Championship, netting five goals in 16 games. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and no new agreement in place with Leicester, Fenerbahçe sees an opportunity to bring the 27-year-old to Turkey.

Fanatik, as cited by 90mins, reports that the uncertainty surrounding Iheanacho’s future has prompted Fenerbahçe to initiate negotiations for the Nigerian striker’s move. An additional factor that might work in Fenerbahçe’s favor is the reported connection between Iheanacho’s management company, ROGON, and Fenerbahçe’s president, Ali Koç.

Iheanacho’s market value is around 18 million Euros, but Fenerbahçe aims to secure a deal for less due to his contract situation. Despite the potential financial advantage, convincing Leicester to part ways with a key player as they strive for a Premier League return poses a significant challenge.

Iheanacho’s impressive track record in English football, featuring 61 goals and 35 assists in 224 matches for Leicester City, adds to the complexity of negotiations. With his roots at Manchester City contributing 21 goals and eight assists in 64 games, Fenerbahçe faces a tough task in securing the coveted Nigerian striker.

As the January transfer window approaches, football enthusiasts eagerly await developments in this potential move, which could reshape the dynamics of Iheanacho’s career and Fenerbahçe’s attacking lineup.
