In a tragic turn of events, Liverpool’s former star, Roberto Firmino, is grieving the untimely death of his father, José Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira, who passed away at the age of 62 after suffering a heart attack.

The heartbreaking news emerged as Jose was on a family trip to Dubai during the international break. Earlier in the week, pictures from the excursion had been shared on social media, portraying moments of joy at an amusement park.

Brazilian outlet UOL first reported the devastating news, with Firmino’s close friends and advisors subsequently confirming the sorrowful event. Family members are currently liaising with the Brazilian embassy in the UAE to facilitate the repatriation of Jose’s remains to South America.

Firmino, who departed Liverpool last summer after an illustrious eight-year tenure, expressed his deep admiration for his father in his book ‘Si Senor – My Liverpool Years.’ In a poignant tribute, he wrote, “Not all heroes wear capes; some are called father. My father, José, was my childhood hero, an inspiration and an example.”

The player’s boyhood club, CRB, also conveyed their condolences, stating, “He’s always been a big Galo de Campina fan and was very proud of his son being unveiled in football with the whirlpool shirt. Rest in peace, José Roberto.”

Despite the somber news, Firmino continues his football journey with Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, where he made an impactful debut with a hat-trick. The team currently holds the third position, with their next fixture scheduled for Saturday. The football community stands in solidarity with Firmino during this difficult time.
