Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Thursday, said that talks over oil exploration at Tongeji Island and Olokola, which are located in the local government areas of Ipokia and Ogun Waterside, respectively, were in top gear.
The governor said the state will soon receive frontier status and become a member of the nation’s league of oil-producing states.
This was said by Prince Abiodun in the Ogun State House of Assembly during the presentation of the 2024 Appropriations Bill, also known as the “Budget of Sustained Growth and Development.”
“Discussions are ongoing regarding the exploration of oil in Tongeji Island, Ipokia Local Government Area, and Olokola, in Ogun Water-Side Local Government Area, respectively. We are confident that very soon, we will be given frontier status and will soon join the league of oil-producing states,” the governor said.
Abiodun revealed that his government had formed the Ministry of Mineral Resources, tasked with managing the overall management and operation of the abundant natural resources in the state, in anticipation of the state’s newfound position as an oil-producing entity.
He stated that the Ministry of Energy was established by his administration to capitalise on the constitutional reform permitting subnational governments to engage in the energy industry.
The governor added that a number of issues confronting the industry will be taken into consideration with an eye towards realigning education in the state. The governor also revealed that a summit on education would take place in the first quarter of 2024.
