The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board stated on Monday that beginning in 2024, applicants for its Direct Entry examination would be exposed to cognitive and verbal reasoning tests.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar, emphasised this at a virtual conference with Education Commissioners from the Federation’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a special bulletin issued by the Board on Monday, Oloyede stated:

“As from 2024, JAMB will conduct Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates to assess their academic potential or career suitability, as well as their mental or physical capacity.”

“It is an intelligent test that will measure the candidate’s current cognitive skills and will not be the usual subjects such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, Physics, etc,” the JAMB chief said.

The aptitude exam, according to the Registrar, would comprise verbal, abstract, mechanical, and numerical thinking, data verification, and work sample.

The Registrar also told the attendees that-

“that the Direct Entry registration will be restricted to only JAMB Offices nationwide.”

He pointed out that upon registration, all DE candidates are required to provide the following details:

  • Registration/Matriculation;
  • The number of previous schools where the qualification was acquired;
  • Qualifying subjects;
  • The awarding institution;
  • The institution attended;
  • The year of graduation; and, if applicable,
  • Entrance letters.
