In order to guarantee national food security, the federal government and the state government of Jigawa have committed to increasing wheat production in the country.
The promise was made on Friday in Abuja by Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari.
Kyari praised Namadi for his zeal and dedication as a governor of farmers and an advocate for food security.
In order to ensure transparent distribution and identify real farmers, he reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to enforcing strict procedures during the next dry/wet season rice, maize, and cassava farming.
According to him:
“The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is fully committed to addressing the issues of round-tripping and poor validation of farmers’ data.
“Collaboration with states, local governments, traditional rulers, NGOs, and relevant MDAs will be crucial in achieving the desired objectives.”
Prior to this, Namadi stated that the state had more than 36,000 hectares under cultivation for wheat farms.
He clarified that there are roughly 50,000 hectares of wheat crops in the state overall.
The minister received assurances from the governor that Jigawa would remain crucial to the NAGS-AP Program’s continuous dry season wheat farming.
