Job Description
As the Credit Risk Manager, you will be instrumental in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks associated with credit operations. Your expertise will help balance risk and profitability, ensuring Veend’s financial stability and growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee credit risk policies and procedures to minimize potential losses.
- Analyze credit data and financial statements to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to evaluate the financial status of clients and the potential risks in loan offerings.
- Collaborate with other departments to establish credit risk controls and assessment strategies.
- Monitor and manage the portfolio for any potential risks or discrepancies.
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes and industry practices to ensure compliance and optimal risk management.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on credit risk trends and potential impacts on the business.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve the overall credit process, including credit scoring models and risk assessment tools.
- Acquire Quality Borrowers with higher eligibility
- Reduce Lending Risk
- Diversify the loan portfolio (Unlock new ecosystems)
- Ensure we lend at a competitive and profitable interest rate
- Create risk models that ensure we make credit decisions in 3 seconds
- Ensure our PAR 30 default rate is not more than 2.5%
- Monitor our ecosystems to know who is leaving
- Get the appropriate insurance to protect us against defaults and other risks
- Send sufficient Payment Reminders to borrowers
- Recovery Calls
- Create a Quality Risk framework or policy that will ensure quality loans
- Fraud Monitoring
- Implement Early Warning Systems

Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in credit risk management, preferably in a financial services or fintech environment.
- Proven track record in managing credit risk and implementing risk assessment models.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in statistical analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related fields; Master’s or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Africa’s financial and credit environment, particularly Nigeria, is highly advantageous.
- Strong MySQL query skills for data analysis.
