The first online passport application portal will be launched in Abuja today, Monday, by Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
He revealed this to Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, on Friday during an online portal presentation.
Tunji stated that a portal for online passport applications has been set up for both foreign and Nigerian applicants.
The minister said in December that the nation’s passport applications will soon be fully automated by the Federal Government.
At the time, he stated that the automated application procedure was “99 percent done,” and that submitting passport images and accompanying documentation will be part of the process.
According to the minister
He said that Nigerian applicants for 32-page passports with a five-year validity would pay N25,000, while those seeking 64-page passports with a 10-year validity would pay N70,000.
Meanwhile, overseas applicants seeking passports with a five-year validity term and 32 pages will pay $130, while those seeking passports with a ten-year validity period and 64 pages would be charged $230. Candidates must submit their applications to https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.
Dignitaries who attended the event included Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission; Stephen Matete, representative of the International Organisation for Migration; Joe Abah, Country Manager of Development Alternatives Incorporated; Tijjani Musa, Founder of the Kwandala Foundation; and David Afolayan, Co-Founder of Technext.
