Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress’ Edo State governorship candidate, received his certificate of return from the ruling party’s leadership on Saturday.
Okpebholo defeated Dennis Idahosa and ten other candidates last Thursday to become the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
The certificate presentation came after Idahosa protested and threatened legal action, claiming the re-run poll was a farce orchestrated by the National Working Committee to benefit the winner.
The National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, delivered the certificate at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, joined by the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and several NWC members.
After the presentation, Ganduje told the media that he was certain that the APC would win the state’s governorship election in September.
The party chairman also denied that the race was reversed in favour of Okpebholo, citing documents and video evidence to back up his allegation.
He said:
“The full cooperation, harmony and unity of all aspirants and members of our party is all we need now to win Edo in the coming election now that the primary is over.
“The party has a product that is refined, well packaged and sellable to the electorate in the person of Okpebholo and is therefore ready to win Edo.”
