Virgil Van Dijk has been included in the FIFA men’s world eleven at the FIFA ‘The Best Awards”. The lineup was selected by the votes of professional players from around the world.
His inclusion was a surprise to many owing to Liverpool’s poor form this season. However, the latest edition of the Men’s World 11 is based on individual performances during the period from August 2021 to December 2022. This is his third inclusion in the World 11.
The World 11 is composed of the goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards who receive the most votes in their position, with the final place given to the outfield player with the next highest tally.
Speaking after picking up his trophy at the ceremony in Paris on Monday evening, Van Dijk said;
‘I feel blessed. It was an interesting year. I’m still very proud to be part of this football club.’
Other players in the eleven are, Courtois, Hakimi, Cancelo, Casemiro, and Modric. It also includes Mbappe, De Bruyne Benzema, and Messi who was crowned best player.
