The Plateau State Police Command on Friday said that 66 people have been detained on suspicion of being members of the deadly Sara Suka cult organisation, which has been terrorising state citizens.
They also retrieved guns from the accused.
Hassan Yabanet, the state Commissioner of Police, said this while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Jos. The suspects were apprehended at various places during the Sallah celebration.
He also stated that the command was working around the clock to safeguard the lives and property of the inhabitants.
He said:
“I wish to most graciously announce to you that the Eid-El-Fitr celebration in the state was peaceful and devoid of any rancour or attack on worshippers.
“Gentlemen of the press, I wish to inform you that our strategic deployment paid off, as a total of seventy-six (66) suspects were arrested at different locations within the state, and the following exhibits were recovered from them; Fourteen (14) machetes Eight (8) daggers Large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp Six (6) tricycles Four (4) motorcycles and a bottle containing illicit substances. Meanwhile, all the suspects are undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court soonest”.
