Former Big Brother Naija reality star Omashola Kola Oburoh, popularly known as Sholzy, has shed light on the controversy surrounding fake currency being sprayed at his wedding months ago, urging the public to use him as an example in the fight against Naira abuse.
Taking to his Instagram page, Omashola addressed the incident, recalling how he faced ridicule for introducing face masks in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic reached Nigeria. Similarly, at his wedding in December 2023, accusations of spraying fake money surfaced, prompting mockery from some quarters. However, he assured his critics that there was a reason behind his actions.
Use me as poster boy for EFCC campaign against Naira abuse… I remember introducing the facemask in 2020 before the COVID hit Nigeria, people were laughing at me. Same thing happened at my wedding in December 2023, they said I was spraying fake money. I told you there was a reason. Thank God a man’s child would have been in prison for 6 months now. THEY ARE LEARNING.”
Omashola’s statement comes in the wake of the arrest and subsequent sentencing of popular crossdresser Bobrisky by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira. Bobrisky pleaded guilty in court, seeking leniency and promising to educate his followers on responsible money spraying. However, he was ultimately sentenced to six months in jail without the option of a fine.
In December 2023, Omashola officially tied the knot with his wife, Britnee Malin, in a traditional wedding ceremony followed by a church ceremony. The event was attended by a host of celebrities, including BBNaija alumni such as Ebuka, Erica, and Mercy Eke, among others.
