Defence Headquarters through its Air Components of Operation Whirl Punch destroyed many terrorist camps in Zamfara and Katsina States over the previous week.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media activities, made the announcement while updating journalists on the activities of the Nigerian Armed Forces in Abuja on Thursday.
Buba said that the newly found camps were obtained through Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), and that they were attacked and engaged with rockets and cannons.
He stated that the response suggested that numerous terrorists, including some of the commanders, had been neutralised as a result of the airstrikes.
“But at this time we do not have a report of the death of Bello Turji and Halilu,” according to him.
Following confirmatory ISR, Buba stated, a similar air interdiction was carried out on June 8 over a terrorist enclave in Katsina State’s Safana Local Government Area.
He said the Battle Damage Assessment showed that numerous terrorists were annihilated along with their buildings.
He continued by saying that on June 6, the air element of Operation Whirl Punch carried out air interdiction on an enclave of a prominent terrorist leader in Tsaunin Doka, in the Kaduna State local government area of Igabi.
According to the evaluation of combat damage and the reports received from the people, a number of terrorists who had prominent leaders were slain, and their logistics were destroyed, he stated.
“Similarly, on the same day, confirmatory ISR indicated terrorist activities in a terrorists’ camp within Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger killing several terrorists,” he added.
