The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has denied claims that a helicopter crashed near Kaduna on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, issued a statement on Monday stating, “Be advised that no helicopter crash happened. Instead, a NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) crashed after takeoff on a mission in Rumji Village, around 15 km from the base.”

The statement said that because the vehicle is unmanned, there were no casualties on board or on the ground.

“Preliminary investigation has since commenced to ascertain what may have caused the mishap,” the statement stated.

He emphasised that Nigerians may be certain that the slight setback will not disrupt any existing operations.

According to the statement:

“It should also be pointed out that the propensity to always rush to press in the name of ‘breaking news’ without a hold of the complete facts should be discouraged.

“This attitude should be discouraged as it negates the principle of developmental journalism, balanced reporting and fairness.”
