Nollywood actor Saidi Balogun has voiced his concerns over the economic hardship and deteriorating situation in Nigeria.

Taking to his Instagram page, the Yoruba actor questioned whether there is a functional price control or price regulatory agency in Nigeria, asking how the effects of inflation can be mitigated. Balogun noted how things are getting out of hand.

Do we have a functional price control or price regulatory agency in Nigeria? How do we cushion the effects of inflation? Because things are getting out of hand,” he wrote.

In a similar vein, actress Lizzy Gold recently lamented the skyrocketing price of petrol, now at N1000 per liter, and the exorbitant cost of foodstuffs. She questioned how people were surviving, highlighting the widespread hunger, rising deaths, and increasing insecurity with daily kidnappings. She made a passionate appeal to the President, urging immediate action as citizens look up to him for solutions.

Weeks back, Destiny Etiko praised Nigerians for their patience amid the economic hardship. Following protests in Kenya, she remarked that despite the challenging situation in Nigeria, people continue to wake up with smiles, pushing through each day. She declared Nigerians the most patient people in the world and dubbed them VIPs.

Talent manager Paulo Okoye echoed this sentiment, recognizing Nigerians as one of the most patient populations globally. Despite the hardship, he noted that citizens still wake up with smiles and resilience, highlighting how the government takes advantage of this patience.

However, fans of Saidi Balogun have criticized him for speaking out about the current economic situation. Some noted that he was among those who campaigned for the President, questioning if the economic hardship has now reached his side too.

One Justice Oso commented,

Waoooo he don reach una side too? I think say na only we the masses the thing dey affect o.” Balogun responded, “The rain falls on everyone, sir, regardless of status. Because I probably have an umbrella does not mean I don’t see the effect of the rain.”

Another fan questioned his sincerity, to which Balogun replied,

Of course, I care. But you would never know that because you already have your mindset. May God answer our prayers.”

Many fans urged him to speak the truth about the suffering and to acknowledge the collective struggles of Nigerians, criticizing the government and those who supported it.
