Flooding has submerged the roadway that connects Jigawa to Kano, Gombe, and Bauchi states.
ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command, verified the story in a statement to journalists.
He said:
“The major highway connecting Birninkudu to Malawa, Babaldu, and neighbouring states Gombe and Bauchi has been completely submerged by flooding making it difficult for motorists.”
The Jigawa NSCDC official recommended drivers to use alternate routes to avoid the impacted region.
“The situation is critical. We urge all motorists to exercise caution and take alternative routes to ensure their safety,” he said.
Badruddeen further stated that Jigawa NSCDC officers have been deployed to the area to reroute motorists and maintain order.
The Jigawa officer added that the water also impacted surrounding settlements, with inhabitants reporting damage to houses and crops.
