Governor Oborevwori-led Delta state government has announced that it has initiated its plans to implement the new minimum wage.

Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, the State Commissioner for Information, made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting.

He stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu, and the Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije, to consult with the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on its implementation in the state.

According to Osuoza, the negotiations between the Delta State government and organized labour would focus on the consequences of the new salary.

The Commissioner further stated that Governor Oborevwori bemoaned the widespread suffering in the country and asked the Commissioner for Agriculture and the Chief Job Creation Officer to develop programs to mitigate the impact of the hardship, particularly on youths across Delta state.

Speaking to journalists at the briefing, Mr Charles Aniagwu, State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), stated that the approvals strengthen Governor Oborevwori’s Meaningful Development plans across the state, with 23 out of 25 local government areas directly impacted by the Exco’s new approval.
