The family of the late promising Gospel singer Aduke Gold is currently at odds with the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo State, following her untimely death.
Allegations of medical negligence have sparked a heated dispute between the family and the hospital.
The tragic death of the young gospel singer, was shared on social media by fellow artist Esther Igbekele, who paid tribute to Aduke with the words,
A general has fallen. RIP.”
Aduke Gold was pronounced dead by medical experts at UCH on August 12th, 2024, after being admitted in serious condition.
However, Aduke’s family has accused the hospital staff of delaying her treatment, which they claim contributed to her demise. In response to these allegations, UCH spokesperson Obafunmilayo Adetuyibi clarified that the singer was referred to their facility from Olabisi Onabanjo Hospital in Ogun State, where she had previously received treatment.
Adetuyibi emphasized that the hospital does not discriminate and provides equal care to all patients, regardless of their circumstances.
The spokesperson further explained that Aduke Gold’s condition was critical upon arrival, and the hospital did everything possible to save her. Despite these efforts, Aduke succumbed to cervical cancer, as confirmed by her family. The singer’s body has since been transferred to Lagos State for burial rites.
Theophilus Ajayi, Aduke’s elder brother and a cleric, confirmed the cause of death and urged Nigerians to pray for the family. While he acknowledged receiving the death certificate and medical reports, Ajayi did not address the family’s allegations against UCH. The hospital maintains that the accusations do not reflect the true events surrounding Aduke Gold’s care and death.
