Seun Egbegbe, the Nollywood filmmaker who regained his freedom in 2022, has shared insights into his time in detention during a recent interview with actress Biola Bayo on the Talk to B show.
Egbegbe opened up about his past, his prison experiences, and the impact of incarceration on his life.
In the interview, Egbegbe confessed to having made mistakes in his past but firmly stated that he had never committed murder. He recounted his interactions with high-profile inmates, including former Governor Fayose, ex-INEC chairman, and the socialite Mompha, all of whom shared the same cell with him. Egbegbe also highlighted how the COVID-19 pandemic affected their legal proceedings, as they did not appear in court throughout 2020.
He expressed gratitude towards the Redeemed Christian Church of God for their support during his imprisonment.
The Redeemed Church really tried for us in prison,” Egbegbe said. “Every Sunday, they provided jollof rice, two pieces of meat, and bottled water for over 3,000 inmates.”
Reflecting on his time behind bars, Egbegbe advised against engaging in crime, sharing his own experiences and the isolation he felt.
95 percent of those close to me abandoned me while I was in detention,” he revealed. “Even my personal assistant, who idolized me, did not visit me.”
Despite the hardships, Egbegbe described his prison experience as transformative. He expressed that his biggest achievement during his time in jail was finding faith in Jesus Christ, which he believes has made him a better person.
