Yomi Fabiyi, a prominent Nollywood actor and filmmaker, has expressed his backing for a solidarity assembly being organized to honour the late singer Mohbad.

The event, set to take place on September 11th, 2024, in front of The High Court (Coroner Inquest) in Ikorodu, Lagos, aims to continue the demand for justice for the deceased artist, whose untimely death at 27 has left many unanswered questions.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, died under unclear circumstances, sparking widespread outrage and calls for a thorough investigation. Following his death, distressing videos emerged showing him being bullied by his former boss and other associates, further fueling public demand for justice.

Ahead of the one-year anniversary of his death, Break The Silence Foundation is organizing a peaceful solidarity assembly, inviting fans, activists, and supporters to join in a unified stand for justice. The NGO has emphasized that the assembly is to be a quiet, respectful gathering with no music, noise, or chanting in front of the court, stressing that it is a peace movement aimed at keeping the quest for justice alive.

Yomi Fabiyi, known for his advocacy on social issues, took to Instagram to repost the announcement, urging others to participate. The post detailed the event, including the dress code—black t-shirts and white armbands—and reiterated the peaceful nature of the assembly.

Fabiyi’s support is in line with the sentiments of many who believe that the fight for justice for Mohbad should continue until the truth is fully uncovered. The solidarity assembly is set to be a significant moment for those who have been deeply affected by the singer’s tragic death.

Since Mohbad’s passing, his legacy has only grown, with his music reaching new heights. His posthumous recognition includes being honored during Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations in New York and receiving tributes from a church in the United States, which erected a Father Christmas-like statue in his likeness.

Moreover, Mohbad’s music has gained significant acclaim, with three of his songs making it to the Billboard Top 10, making him the first African artist without an album to achieve such a feat. This remarkable accomplishment underscores the lasting impact of his work and the deep connection he has with his fans.
