Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, called the recent floods in Kaduna State’s Sabon Gari Local Government Area as terrible.
The flood on Monday was caused by heavy rains in the Kogin Mata and Tudun Muntsira, Chikaji regions of Sabon Gari Local Government Area.
Musa Krishi, the Speaker’s media adviser, said in a statement on Tuesday that Abbas sympathized with the flood victims and expressed sadness that such a catastrophic tragedy occurred at a time when people were struggling to preserve their lives.
According to the Speaker:
“The deluge caused significant property damage and displaced numerous residents.”
Abbas urged for immediate action to help those impacted, encouraging citizens to stay calm while the administration works to ease their pain.
The Speaker then urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Management Agency to quickly aid flood victims.
He also asked residents in the impacted and nearby regions to take precautions and follow flood risk warnings from appropriate authorities.
Abbas called for a concerted effort to address the country’s overall flooding problem.
