In a recent interview, Nancy Isime recounted her journey in Nollywood, discussing her growth in the movie industry and the challenges she’s faced as an actress.
From pursuing success over traditional expectations to handling controversies with grace, Nancy shared her experiences and lessons learned in her career.Nancy Isime began by discussing the driving force behind her success.
Unlike many of her peers, she didn’t focus on marriage or settling down at a young age. Instead, Nancy’s goal was to work hard and become financially independent. She explained that her determination to succeed shaped her approach to life and acting, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance.
I work hard to provide for myself,” she shared, adding that this independence ensures she can never feel threatened by anyone leaving her life. It’s this mindset that has fueled her success in Nollywood, where she has learned to ignore negativity and focus on her craft.
Nancy acknowledged that being a public figure in the movie industry often invites criticism, but she’s mastered the art of tuning out distractions. Instead, she draws inspiration from the hard work and dedication of Nollywood icons like Genevieve Nnaji, Mercy Johnson, and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde. These women, Nancy said, paved the way through relentless effort, and she’s determined to follow their example.
Her strong work ethic stems from the belief that failure is not an option. “If I flop as an actress, it’s on me,” Nancy remarked, emphasizing that she constantly strives to deliver her best performance.
However, success hasn’t come without its challenges. Over the years, Nancy has faced controversies, often surrounding her personal life and appearance. Most recently, Gistlover’s blog linked her to Senator Akpabio in a scandal, though she remained silent on the matter. Similarly, when a Muslim woman called her out for wearing a Niqab in a movie scene, accusing her of disrespecting the religion, Nancy opted not to engage, allowing the drama to fade quickly.
Nancy’s ability to stay focused and rise above these challenges is what continues to set her apart in Nollywood.
