Nollywood actress and producer Wumi Toriola is ready to take her career to new heights as she prepares for her first-ever cinema debut with the film Queen Lateefah, set to hit theaters on September 27.

Known for her record-breaking success on YouTube, Toriola is stepping into the cinema world alongside industry giants such as Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, and Odunlade Adekola.

In a heartfelt message to her fans and supporters, Wumi shared her excitement about the upcoming release. She reflected on her journey from DVD and YouTube screens to satellite TV, and now the big screen, thanking her loyal fanbase for their unwavering support throughout her career.

The talented actress revealed that earlier this year, she partnered with Cinema Xng to produce Queen Lateefah, a film directed by the acclaimed filmmaker @captaindegzy. She described the movie as a major leap forward and promised her fans that September would be “lit” as they eagerly await the premiere.

In her own words:

“My name is Wumi Toriola. I have been on your DVD, YouTube screens, and satellite TV for a while. Yes, I have been around for a while. I have explored, and I am still exploring your screens.”

“January 2024, I leapt further in partnership with @cinemaxng to produce my cinema film debut, a blockbuster titled Queen Lateefah, which will be showing in cinemas from Sept 27th as directed by @captaindegzy.”

Wumi further expressed how much her fans mean to her, stating that their love has been her source of motivation and encouraging them to gear up for what promises to be a memorable cinematic experience.

This new venture into cinema comes on the heels of Wumi’s remarkable success on YouTube. Recently, one of her movies garnered 4 million views in just one month, a feat she celebrated with enthusiasm. She also achieved the milestone of 100k subscribers in July, marking her significant presence on the platform and demonstrating her strong connection with viewers.

While celebrating her accomplishments, Wumi took the opportunity to address some of her colleagues in the industry who have belittled her success on YouTube. She shared that someone had labeled her a “YouTube star,” but she countered by pointing out that many of her peers have yet to achieve similar success on the platform. She urged them to focus on their own journeys rather than seeking validation elsewhere, confidently asserting her place in both the YouTube and cinema worlds.
