As the first remembrance of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Promise, popularly known as Mohbad, approaches, his wife Omowunmi has shared a touching throwback photo of the two on her Instagram story.
Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, tragically passed away under unclear circumstances at the young age of 27 on September 12, 2023.
Since Mohbad’s passing, which was marked by controversy and rumors of bullying by his former label boss, Naira Marley, and others, his family and fans have continued to mourn his loss. With the anniversary of his death approaching, Omowunmi’s throwback photo stirred mixed reactions on social media.
Although Omowunmi shared the picture without a caption, it drew various comments from fans, with some expressing support while others called for a DNA test on Mohbad’s son, Liam. This has been a hot topic since the singer’s passing, with his father and others demanding proof of the child’s paternity.
Some reactions included:
Qwin_abby: “You never still do DNA?”
An_na_bella1: “This particular picture just makes it look as if he’s still alive.”
Kii_ra0: “At the end of everything, everybody don move on including his wife.”
Deebillz001: “The fake love is real. If it’s just for the sake of love and respect for the deceased, this lady could have done DNA by now.”
Despite the noise surrounding the DNA test, Omowunmi has remained firm in her decision, stating that no one has the right to demand such a test from her. Legal pressure has mounted, and in April, she was served with a court order for a DNA test on her son, Liam. This followed two failed attempts to deliver the court process.
Omowunmi, who has consistently expressed her love for Mohbad, was deeply affected by his passing. On her birthday earlier this year, she made a heartfelt plea for Nigerians to focus on celebrating her late husband instead of her, describing him as her best friend, confidant, and gist partner. She also spoke about their son, Liam, calling him the best birthday gift Mohbad ever gave her.
