Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku continues her advocacy for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), emphasizing the need to normalize it within religious circles.
In a recent message to Nigerian religious women, Njoku affirmed that there’s nothing wrong with IVF, as God has granted humans the wisdom to find solutions to life’s challenges. She urged women to freely include IVF in their testimonies, allowing God to use them to inspire and bless others. However, she added that anyone who isn’t ready to share their complete story should refrain from speaking, to avoid angering God.
In a follow-up post, Njoku criticized those who claim IVF failed them but attribute their eventual pregnancy to a divine miracle. She called such statements absurd, arguing that IVF and C-sections are miracles in themselves, as countless families have been blessed through them. The actress stated that if IVF didn’t work for someone, it has worked for others, and urged people to stop using religion to discourage others from receiving their blessings.
Saying IVF failed you, but God gave you a miracle is absurd. IVF is a miracle! C-sections are a miracle! God has blessed countless families through them,”
Mary Njoku said, encouraging women to embrace all forms of miracles. She reminded her audience that miracles come in different forms and referenced the term “Hebrew Women,” often used in religious circles, to further drive home her point.
Njoku’s outspoken nature is nothing new. Earlier this year, she made headlines for stating that a mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different surname from her underage children unless she is also allowed to change theirs. Last year, she also advised men to value mothers, pointing out that men who want their children to be brilliant cannot mistreat their wives, as a fowl cannot raise a tiger.
