Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo has responded to his ex-wife, Sonia, following her reaction to the news of him expecting a child with his fiancée.
Sonia, while addressing the rumours, stated that she was unbothered as she was busy with a campaign tour but playfully vowed to return before the child’s naming ceremony.
In response, Jude took to social media to call out Sonia, accusing her of being obsessed with him. He remarked that even the devil takes time to rest and hoped that she would find peace. Jude further exposed what he called her “lies,” emphasizing that he was too busy focusing on his career to engage in irrelevant matters.
I would be obsessed too… Rest naaaa for Christ’s Sake. Even the devil dey rest sometimes. Lies upon lies every day. I dey too busy dey look for my daily bread to stress about irrelevant things. I pray you find peace,” he posted.
The footballer’s response comes after Sonia’s social media posts last week where she praised him for being a great father to their children. These posts sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens speculating that she was trying to regain his favor. Sonia, however, shut down the rumors, stating that she would continue to celebrate Jude as the father of her children, despite their separation. She reminded followers that she was the one who initiated their divorce.
The couple, who married in 2009 and separated in 2020 after a decade of marriage, have been involved in several public social media disputes since their breakup. Sonia has not shied away from throwing jabs at Jude, including allegations of him being involved with BBNaija star Uriel Oputa, which Uriel denied.
In December, Sonia revealed that she had found love again, sharing a photo of her new partner with his face hidden by an emoji. She gushed over how he had restored her faith in love after years of disappointment.
Reflecting on their on-and-off relationship, Sonia admitted that she and Jude briefly reconciled in 2021 before officially ending things in 2022. She claimed that the footballer had reached out to her for the sake of their children, but their attempt at reconciliation failed due to family pressures.
Despite their split, the ex-couple continue to be embroiled in social media drama, with their most recent exchange revolving around Jude’s alleged upcoming child with his new fiancée. Sonia once again took a subtle jab at Jude, hinting that he is still hurt over her not using flight tickets he had purchased for her, stating,
I won’t reply to all the gibberish you posted. I know you are still hurt because I wasted your flight tickets. I am sorry.”
Sonia and Jude’s tumultuous relationship has captivated public attention, with both sides continuing to air their grievances online, much to the amusement and interest of their fans.
