The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has opened up about the difficult period after his marriage to Olori Naomi ended, leading to widespread mockery online.
The monarch revealed that after his marriage broke down, he became a subject of ridicule, with people saying a king without a queen had no respect.
During this tough period, Ooni shared that he often woke up alone, asking God who he had offended as he felt he had not wronged anyone. However, God assured him to stay calm, and fast forward to the present, Ooni now has multiple queens residing in his palace.
When my marriage broke and I became single, many mocked me, saying a king without a queen is without respect. I was waking up alone and called on God, asking, who did I offend? God told me to relax, and today, there are queens everywhere in the palace,” Ooni said.
It will be recalled that in December 2022, Olori Naomi, Ooni’s second wife, shocked many by announcing the end of their three-year marriage via her Instagram. Since then, Ooni has remarried six women within three months: Olori Mariam, Olori Elizabeth Akinmuda, Olori Tobi Phillips, Olori Ashley, Olori Ronke, and Olori Temitope.
Reflecting on the changes in his life, Ooni explained that although he attempted to make certain adjustments, traditional expectations required him to take multiple wives.
Social media users had mixed reactions to Ooni’s comments. Some noted that several of his current wives were allegedly involved with him during his previous marriage. Comments ranged from congratulatory messages to skepticism about the nature of his marriages.
Despite the mockery and criticism, Ooni has found solace in his growing family, having recently welcomed twins with Olori Tobi and a son with Olori Ashley.
