Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a breakdown of polling and collation agents that were uploaded to its webpage for the Ondo State Governorship election.
This follows political parties’ submissions and the portal’s closing.
The site launched on August 20, 2024. It will automatically close at midnight on Monday, September 30, 2024, as specified in item 9 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election, which was announced over a year earlier in September 2023.
Ondo State has 3,933 voting units and 222 collation facilities, including 203 ward centres, 18 local government centres, and the State collation centre in Akure.
A political party running candidates in the election is anticipated to designate 4,155 agents.
The Commission projected 74,790 agents from the 18 parties that participated in the election.
However, INEC claimed that just 24,148 agents were uploaded to the system, which included 22,689 polling agents, 1,249 ward agents, 196 local government agents, and 14 state collation agents.
Overall, the 18 political parties nominated 32.3% of the projected number of agents.
“Three political parties have no agents at any level of polling or collation,” INEC said in a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
“A detailed breakdown of the submissions has been uploaded to our website and social media platforms for public information,” the statement added.
