Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has stepped in to call for peace and order amidst the ongoing bullying of her colleague Toyin Abraham by netizens and overzealous fans.
Sharing photos from her movie Everybody Loves Jenifa promotion, Funke took the opportunity to deliver a heartfelt message on the importance of love and kindness. She stressed that words have power and can either uplift or destroy those they are directed toward.
In her note, Funke highlighted the struggles many people face, both publicly and privately, and emphasized the need to use words to support and encourage rather than tear others down.
I want to remind you all that everyone has a story, and words can make or break,” she shared. “That’s why I want to emphasize the importance of kindness on social media. Everyone struggles, and words can hurt. Let’s lift each other up with love, encouragement, and support. Remember, bullying isn’t just physical – words matter.”
She also made a specific appeal to her fans, urging them to avoid negativity and focus on creating a positive, supportive community where everyone feels valued and loved. “Spread love!!! Be kind!!” she added, calling for unity over division.
This plea comes amid growing tensions between the fan bases of Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, who have been engaged in unnecessary online battles.
Recently, Toyin Abraham addressed the rivalry directly in an open letter to Funke Akindele. In her letter, Toyin shared how the feud fueled by their fans had negatively impacted their careers and personal lives. She congratulated Funke for her achievements, especially hitting the one billion mark at the box office, in an effort to diffuse the tension.
However, some fans persisted in stirring up drama. A troll commented on one of Toyin’s posts, insinuating that Funke Akindele would copy her in 12 hours. This triggered Toyin to reprimand the troll, making it clear that she wanted no part in any fan-led attacks on her colleague.
